Wound dehiscence

Wound dehiscence following Caesarean section.

Success story

Christie suffered a complete wound dehiscence following an emergency Caesarean section in May 2003. She alleged that this was due to various counts of negligence before, during and after the procedure. PMS Expert Report concluded that the wound dehiscence should have been detected at an earlier stage. Although a recognised complication of Caesarean Sections, it should have been identified as soon as serious discharge occurred, which would have prevented Christie's intestines bursting out of the wound as well as the psychological trauma and pain this caused. The case settled, and Christie received compensation.
