Haemorrhage as a result of laparoscopy

Success story

Paula had a laparoscopic left oophorectomy in 2003. The procedure was complicated by bleeding from the left port site, and she returned to theatre the next day. She alleged that the procedure was negligently performed. PMS Expert Report noted that the port site bleeding is a recognised complication of laparoscopy. Although critical of the nursing staff for failing to notify a Gynaecologist 12 hours earlier, PMS concluded that Paula would have had to go back to theatre either way, and her long term prognosis was not affected. The case was dismissed.
